Mode of message delivery: studies were excluded if the mode of message delivery was via mass media or required more than minimal contact; study design: studies were excluded if the study did not evaluate an appropriate outcome (i.e., physical activity, intentions or self-efficacy), the intervention was complex and prevented the isolation of message effects or no message was delivered.
